Welcome to Spotlight for Success by American Book Company. I am Devin Pintosa, your host. We are here at the Alabama Educational Technology Conference here in sunny Mobile Alabama and really enjoying this conference. I have my special guest here, Shabiria Wolf, so happy that you could join us today. Thank you, Shabiria joins us from Glen Oaks Intermediate School and that's in Fairfield City Schools, Is that right?
Speaker 2:That's correct.
Speaker 1:All right, Wonderful Well. Thank you, Shabiria, for joining us today. Can you tell us a bit about what brings you to the Alabama ETC today?
Speaker 3:Well, I'm up here, of course, to collect knowledge for my school, to take back to my school, but I'm also presenting on tomorrow.
Speaker 1:Oh, wow, and tell me about this presentation you're doing.
Speaker 3:Okay, the presentation that I have designed for this particular conference is digital treasures tech tools for teachers in the classroom in the areas of math and science. We are in a society that is definitely heavy in the STEM field, so we always want to keep our teachers abreast of all of the latest websites, the newest podcasts, all of the different tools that they can use within the classroom.
Speaker 1:That is wonderful. I see you keep up with the latest trends in technology.
Speaker 3:I try my best.
Speaker 1:Yeah, you mentioned to me earlier, you're a lifelong learner. I am, and I understand you have some celebrations coming up, is that right?
Speaker 3:Absolutely, absolutely Again. I am a lifelong learner. So because I'm a lifelong lifelong learner, I have recently graduated, not once, but twice, from two different colleges, getting two different degrees simultaneously, while teaching as a full-time teacher and being a full-time pageant queen. Okay so a lot on my plate you sure have.
Speaker 1:How did you get two degrees at the same time working full time?
Speaker 3:well, it was a lot of late nights and early mornings I tell you um, I again, once I set my mind to something, I find a way. Um, that's one of the things I I feel like you should sacrifice for what you love, and I'm a lover of knowledge, so I put that sacrifice towards everything that I do, and I try to put my passion in everything I do, especially for my students.
Speaker 1:Oh, that is so wonderful. What are your degrees in?

Speaker 3:Well, the first degree that I just received was a master's in instructional leadership Wonderful. And then I also have a degree from the North Carolina College of Theology as well.
Speaker 1:Wow, that is great. That's two masters. Is that right? Two degrees?
Speaker 3:yeah.
Speaker 1:That is amazing Shabiria, amazing Shabiria. And can you tell me a bit about your journey, from what helped you get to the point of you know here? You were in a different field, I understand, in college, and then you made a decision you're going to go and be going education.
Speaker 3:Yes, so I did start off in the College of Engineering. I went to school for electrical engineering for four years.
Speaker 1:Wow.
Speaker 3:And so on that journey it was really interesting being the only female in a lot of my courses and things of that nature. And so all of a sudden I just got this unction that I should be teaching Now. Mind you, I did not want to be a classroom teacher, I know. I saw a lot of the things that my teachers had to deal with. I was like, no, I don't want to do that. But as I sat back and reflected I realized that that's what I had been doing all the time. I had been teaching all the time, teaching in my church, teaching in my school, teaching, you know, the kids in my neighborhood, just teaching all the time. And I also realized that I had a rapport with students where I was able to get younger kids to do things faster than the adults could do them, even though I was a child at the time.
Speaker 3:So again that teaching has always been with me.
Speaker 1:That's incredible. And now you did this presentation here today. So you're giving back to the Alabama ETC, yes, and what are you hoping to get out of Alabama ETC in these sessions?
Speaker 3:Again taking back the knowledge, the wealth of knowledge and things that I can use and also pass on, not just to my students but to my fellow co-workers as well. Because, again, as long as we're on the forefront of the learning and the technologies and the things that are going on around us, that's definitely more beneficial for the students because they will have a broader perspective of all the different career options that they have out there today.
Speaker 1:Oh, that is so awesome. Well, once again, thank you so much. Shabiria Wolf here with us from Glen Oaks Intermediate School and that's in Fairfield City Schools. Thank you for joining us today.
Speaker 3:You are so more than welcome.
