Spotlight 4 Success

From Librarian To Leader

American Book Company Season 2 Episode 1

Send us a text

What if your next conference trip rewired how your district learns? Sitting with instructional coordinator Samantha David at LACUE New Orleans 2025, we trace a path from librarian roots to a role that multiplies impact by teaching teachers, curating practical tools, and building the kind of network that turns ideas into adoption. Samantha brings a clear-eyed view of professional development: it has to be usable on Monday, aligned to standards, and respectful of teachers’ time, or it won’t last.

SPEAKER_00:

Welcome to Spotlight for Success by American Book Company. I am Devin Pentosa, your host. We are here at LACU, New Orleans 2025. We are so excited to have with us here today Samantha David.

SPEAKER_01:

Hi, everybody.

SPEAKER_00:

Welcome, Samantha.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, I'm excited to be here. Thank you for the welcome. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

Samantha joins us. She's at Iberia Parish. And she is the instructional coordinator, is that right?

SPEAKER_01:

Kind of like the instructional technology sports supervisor. It's a long, long title, yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

That's awesome. And uh tell me, what brings you to LACU?

SPEAKER_01:

Well, I love LACU. I come every year. Okay. I get a lot of my training here from LACU. Oh. I really enjoy being here and just the camaraderie of, you know, coworkers and other people in your role and your field. It just helps you out a lot, especially the networking connections.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, that's great. Is there a particular like strain or something of interest here at the conference? You're like, I want to learn more about that.

SPEAKER_01:

I'm kind of like eclectic, so I like it all. Um you never know when there's something that might come up that you need some additional knowledge on. Okay. Um, but I do uh like to train teachers. So whatever we use it that's usable in our district, I usually bring it back to them so that we can keep on, you know, sharing the knowledge and the love of learning.

SPEAKER_00:

That's that's great. Thank you for watching Spotlight for Success. I am Devin Pentosi, the Chief Operating Officer of American Book Company. SPEAKER_01:

Yes, yes. I remember in um when I was working at Sugarland, they did purchase some uh materials from ABC, and so the kids like them, the teachers like them. So wonderful. Um I know that it would probably be wonderful in other districts as well as our own. Yeah, that's great. Give it a look.

SPEAKER_00:

That's great. And uh Samantha, um, is there anything uh you'd like to share, or is there a special moment where you're like, this is why I got into being an instructional coordinator?

SPEAKER_01:

It was strange. I remember uh really, really con thinking about things, and I've always wanted to teach teachers. Okay, but I was like, well, that'll probably never happen, you know. I'm in the library, I'm a librarian, you know. But it it just came across one day, and I was like, well, why not go for it? And it just so happens it worked out quite well, and I'm enjoying what I do. I love teaching teachers. Yes.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, that is awesome. Uh do you have a message you'd like to share with the LACU community from this conference?

SPEAKER_01:

Yes, come come to LACU. If you've never been, you should come. So you can network and find out about things that you didn't even know about. LACU is the best place to be.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, yes. All right. Thank you so much again. This is Samantha David. Uh thank you for joining us from Iberia Parish. Awesome. Thank you guys. Thank you.
