The floor at LACUE buzzes, but what stands out is a simple transformation: a teacher who once felt overwhelmed now walks with a plan to hand the mic to her students. We sit down with Lauren Domangue to trace how a yearbook program stretched into social media, and why podcasting is the natural next leap for a high school of 1,400 voices.

Welcome to Spotlight for Success by American Book Company. I am Devin Pentosi, your host. We are here at the wonderful LaCue Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, and we are so excited to have with us today. Uh Lauren Domang. We're so excited to have you.
SPEAKER_01:Thanks. I'm excited to be here. This is my second year at LaCue, so you know, I kind of have like conference, conference uh like positivity, like I don't, you know, confidence. Like I don't I don't feel as scared as I was last year coming here, so it's good.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, that's great.
SPEAKER_01:It's kind of overwhelming, you know. There's so much going on.
SPEAKER_00:Wow, yeah, there is so much going on here. It's such a busy environment. And I understand you come to us from uh HL Bourgeois School, is that right?
SPEAKER_01:Yes.
SPEAKER_00:All right, and you're at uh Terra Bone Parish?
SPEAKER_01:Yes. Where yep, we are um high school, about 1,400 kids. Um, and I get to interact with most of them through the different activities and stuff that I do.

SPEAKER_01:So, students and beyond, I get, you know, I get to make the yearbook, which is super fun, and then now yearbook has expanded to social media. You know, you you you have new ways of promoting it and everything, so it's getting the kids involved in other things, and then I do handle the social media at our school. So now I'm learning TikTok and you know all those things. They're teaching me TikTok, I should say, and then they're showing me, you know, the editing side of things like through Cap Cut and apps like that. So they're they're schooling me.
SPEAKER_00:That's great. And uh what kind of things are you hoping to bring back uh to the kids from Lacue this year?
SPEAKER_01:My major thing this year is learning podcasting and and bringing the right place. I see that, I see that. So, and just kind of bringing it here, uh bringing it there from here, and I I'm excited about it. Anytime I talk to my kids about the podcast I'm listening to and stuff, there's a couple that are like we started listening to podcasts, and I'm like, what if we could make one? You know, like how cool would that be? So I I I'm getting them on board. Awesome. You know, the people in charge are are on board, so it's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, fantastic! Yeah, well, we're so excited, and we hope we can get help you build a podcast at your school. So uh that's that's awesome. Um, is there anything you'd like to share with the LACU community?
SPEAKER_01:Um, I don't, I guess the with the Lakue. First off, if this is the first time you have come to LACU, don't use the elevators. Use the stairs. Um, make the most out of the sessions that you pick. Um but you know, just really truly try and find something, something new, something different. That's what I did last year with choosing the podcasting, you know, spot and session. And that ended up being my favorite session and just got so much out of it. And now this is where I'm at today with it.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, that's so awesome.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
